Why the high-low layout works
The vertical offset helps separate clothing by person, garment length or use. Keep daily shirts on one rail and trousers or occasional pieces on the other, without hiding the full rear row behind the front one.
Wider sides reduce crowding
The widened side structure gives adjacent garments more room around the frame and helps reduce bunching and hanger collisions. Leave enough space to slide a hanger sideways; if the rail is compressed from end to end, rotate seasonal pieces out instead of overfilling it.
Use the lower level for floor clutter
The bottom storage deck holds shoes, a basket or a compact box. Keep containers low enough that they do not rub against clothing and center heavier items within the base.
Four locking 2-inch casters
The swivel casters let one person reposition the rack for cleaning or move it between a bedroom and laundry area. Lock all four casters after placing the rack on a level floor. Unlock the wheels and push from the frame before moving.

Not everyone needs to hang 650 lbs of winter coats. Most of us need to hang one season's worth of clothing for two people, with a place at the bottom for the shoes that pile up by the door. We built this one for that. The double rods sit at slightly different heights, which means dresses on the top and folded sweaters on the bottom, or one person's wardrobe on each. The lower shelf holds four pairs of boots. The wheels lock, the frame is light enough to reposition alone. We made it for the everyday — the rack you live with, not the rack you store.
